This is week 4 of an 8 week study of David. The Bible says David was a man after God's own heart. What does that mean? David is a complex man; David is a servant and a leader, a sinner and a redeemed child of God, an instrument of God's creative purposes. God looked at David, out in the foothills of Bethlehem tending sheep, and God says. 'There's my man".
When someone has done us wrong, when we've been mistreated, we instinctively want revenge! We want that person to get what we think they deserve. We want to get even. When have you been tempted to get even with someone?
In Samuel chapter 25, David is insulted by a man named Nabal. His wife Abigail shows us at great example of how we should respond to those who mistreat us.
Some of these questions are taken from the Life Guide Bible Study on 1 & 2 Samuel.
Our readings for this week: 1 Samuel 25.

Questions to think about:
1. Why do you think the events in this chapter are deliberately sandwiched between two accounts where David had a chance to kill Saul?
2. What do we learn about Nabal and Abigail, two new characters in this drama?
3. Why is David so offended by Nabal's response to his request (vv. 4-13, 21-22)?
4. What do you think of David's plan to get even with Nabal (vv. 13, 34)?
5. What methods do we use to get even with those who mistreat us?
6. What impresses you about Abigail's response when she finds out what has happened between Nabal and David (vv. 14-21)?
7. Like Abigail, how can we overcome evil with good?
8. How is David's relationship with Nabal similar to his relationship with Saul?
9. What lesson is the Lord repeatedly trying to drive home to David and to us?
10. How would Nabal's faith encourage David to trust God about Saul?
11. Think of someone who has recently mistreated you. How can this study affect your attitude and actions toward that person?
