I hope you have enjoyed reading our Lent devotional He Fights for You; Promises for Everyday Battles written by Max Lucado. 

Questions to Ponder:

1. This Lent we have spent our time studying the everyday promises of God. In these challenging times, we need the promises of God, promises that we can cling to when life is hard and lonely and scary. Which of the promises of God we have studied means the most to you at this stage of your journey?

I Will Be Your Strength

I Will Hear Your Prayers

I Will Fight For You

I Will Give You Rest

I Will Be Your Peace

I Will Never Leave You

I Will Always Love You

2. Our culture says all we need is to love ourselves. Why does the popular teaching on self-esteem and self-love work against our experience of God's great love?

3. As humans, we tend to think that if we want something, we must work for it. While that may be true in some areas of life, we cannot earn or work for our salvation. Salvation is a free gift from God. How does any form of works salvation undermine a person's experience of God's amazing love in Christ?

4. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." What is the significance of Christ's death for every human being?

5. How has God demonstrated His love to you?

6. Ask your Father God to help you know and believe in your heart how very much God loves you. You are dearly loved. Are you willing to trust His love for you? Ask God to help you learn how to love others as God does. Jesus will share His heart for people with you so you will want to love others as Jesus did. How might you love someone with the love of Jesus?

There are many Scripture verses about God's love.
Choose one and write it on a card, posting it somewhere you will read often.

Here are some of my favorites:

*Deuteronomy 7:9

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

*Nehemiah 9:17

They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.

*Psalm 86:15

But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

*Psalm 136:26

Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

*Isaiah 54:10

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

*Jeremiah 31:33

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

*Lamentations 3:22-23

Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

*Zephaniah 3:17

The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."

*John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish buy have eternal life.

*John 13:34-35

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

*John 15:9

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.

*Romans 5:5

And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

*Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

*Romans 8:37-39

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nro life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

*1 Corinthians 13  (the whole chapter is about God's love!)

*Galations 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

*Ephesians 2:4-5

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved.

*Ephesians 3:17-19

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

*1 John 3:1

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

*1 John 4:7-10

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

*1 John 4:16

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
