A parable is a simple story that illustrates a profound truth. Did you know that more than a third of Jesus' recorded teaching is in the form of parables? When we study the parables, we hear the voice of Jesus. What is He saying? What is our response?

Through this study, we will grow into a deeper love of the One of whom it was said: "No one ever spoke the way this man does." John 7:46

Of the 30 parables Jesus told, the parable of the Good Samaritan is one of the most beloved by Christians and non-Christians alike. The No-Prep Bible Study Series says, "In one fell swoop, Christ shows us what real love looks like and redefines the term 'neighbor'. Hopefully as you open your mind and your heart yet again to this timeless story, you will glean some fresh new understandings of what it means to 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

Our Scripture readings are Leviticus 19:17-18; Matthew 5:43-48; Luke 10:30-37.

Questions to Ponder:

1. This parable begins with the words, "a certain man". What is significant about this phrase?

2. How does the parable support Luke's emphasis on reversal?

3. How much love do these two religious guys show?

4. In v. 33, what motivates the Samaritan to action and help the injured man?

5. How much love did our Samaritan show?

6. How would you answer the question, "Who is my neighbor?"

7.  When is a time you had an opportunity to be a Good Samaritan? When is a time someone was a Good Samaritan to you?

8. Why is a willingness to help others an essential part of our witness for Christ?

9. What new truth have you learned from this parable about the character of God? What can you do to develop this divine attribute in your life?
