In honor of the 250th anniversary of the writing of "Amazing Grace", we are spending this Lent focusing on God's Amazing Grace!

Those in the Bible who experienced the amazing grace of God help us each week to realize that though we once were lost in sin, we now have been found by Jesus, and though we once were blind to God's mercy, we now can see His love at work in us through our Savior's death and resurrection.

The first Biblical person we studied was Isaiah of Babylon. We see God's amazing grace at work in the life of the prophet Isaiah, who proclaimed to God's people the salvation that was to come through the Suffering Servant.

The second Biblical person we are studying is the story of the Prodigal Sons. While we often focus on the wayward son, there is another son in this story too. Both are in need of God's amazing grace.

Our readings for this week: Joel 2: 12-13; Ephesians 2: 1-10; Luke 15: 11-32

Questions to Ponder:

1. This is a question we will continue to discuss during this sermon series: How would you define the amazing grace of God?

2. We are studying God's amazing grace, grace that has no limits. Yet we tend to put limits on God's grace. How and why do we do that?

3. Both sons receive a gift from their father, an inheritance before he dies! What will these two sons now do with the gift they have received? Do they thank their father?

4. How does sin promise enjoyment but bring enslavement? How does obedience to God's will bring true freedom?

5. The younger son runs off and wastes the gift the Father gave him. Ready to return, still the younger son underestimates the Father's grace. Do you ever underestimate God's grace for you?

6. How does the Father respond when the younger son returns? Is his response surprising to you? Why or why not?

7. How does the older son respond when the younger son returns? Is his response surprising to you? Why or why not?

8. When you have experienced the radical and amazing grace of God, how do you respond to God? To people around you?

9. How does God's grace free you to serve the Lord without fear of failure or rejection? How does it free you of developing unhealthy expectations of your co-laborers in Christ?
